Best 4 channels amp for the price tag!

XM-N1004 05 October 2017 by Samyaza (United Kingdom) Verified Purchaser Verified

I got this amplifier to power up my new speakers. For of them in the doors of the car. Back coaxial and in the front systems (separate tweeters and crossovers). They are all of them rated at 50W RMS at 4 Ohm and this amp is rated at 70W RMS at 4 Ohm! That's a lot trust me and is even more for the price tag. My Head Unit has all kind of settings for crossovers and distance between ear and speakers but if you plan to use it with a standard head unit (or without many settings) pay attention because this amp doesn't have HPF on the "so named" back speakers, just LPF at 80Hz and this is not so great. But usually nowadays head units have settings for filters. I personally keep them on OFF both of them and I use only the Head Unit settings. One great advantage this amp has is the gain control noted with the voltages that comes out from the Head Unit. Mine has for example 2V, and so forth, in this way you can set up the level quite accurate. I still recommend you to use my method of setting up the amp. Use an oscilloscope, use 1Khz sine signal for the main speakers and 40Hz or 60Hz for the sub. Normalise those files (0dB). Don't forget to not connect yet the speakers. 1Khz at high level will burn your speakers because at this oscillation they have no ventilation so no way to getting fresh less heated air. Set the volume of the head unit at 75% from the maximum. Play the sine wave and watch the scope. Some waves like would appear. Start increasing the gain of the amplifier till the sine wave turns to squares. This is the point of distortion. Move one grad or two back the gain to have perfect sine-wave. This method is perfect. Is an A/B class amplifier which is making it larger (than a D class) but the sound quality is far better. As you read in the manual has an "adaptive cooling" system. Well is not the case in the first place because I play all the time the music at maximum and the amp doesn't get warm at all so the cooling is very good. Also the whole cover is made in aluminium which I bet is bolted to the final transistors to allow perfect cooling. One more thing, this amp doesn't have a "high level input". I could never recommend such a thing, but maybe you have no other solutions. Well you need to buy adapters for the signal from the speakers to be decreased at the levels of the RCA's on the Sony Amp. Buy with faith, I'm a professional in "sound". This amp worth every penny. I hope Sony would make in the future more powerful amps (let's say a proper mono-block at 500W RMS, another one at 800W and so on). Cheers.
