Optics featuring large elements manufactured using advanced techniques, including three XA (extreme aspherical) elements, ensure high corner-to-corner resolution at F2 throughout the zoom range. One ED (extra-low dispersion) and three Super ED elements reduce chromatic aberration, Nano AR Coating II cuts flare/ghosting, floating focus boosts close-focus resolution, and gorgeous G Master bokeh enhances dimensionality.
This compact, lightweight F2 zoom lens delivers advanced standard zoom functionality, image quality that rivals the best primes, and stunning AF. Innovative technologies including advanced optics and XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors make all of this fit in a constant F2 zoom that is only 92.9 x 139.8 mm (3.75 x 5.63) and weighs just 918 g (32.4 oz). Stress-free shooting with all the advantages of a standard zoom and no compromise on image quality.
Four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and the latest algorithm keep the large F2 focus group under precise control. Reliable focus tracking and instant response are essential in professional situations such as weddings or sports events where missing even one frame can be disastrous. This lens is fully compatible with the 120fps burst capability of the α9 III, and tracking continues smoothly even while zooming.
Focus breathing is effectively reduced for smooth movie imagery with minimal angle-of-view instability. Rack focus and zoom effects can be used with F2 depth of field to create natural transitions that guide the viewer's eye. Critical focus for high frame rate 4K 120p/FHD 240p recording is easy. The XD linear motors and a new aperture unit are quiet in operation, and α body breathing compensation is supported.
Linear Response MF provides intuitive focus control, adjustable zoom ring torque allows easy customisation, and an aperture ring with a click ON/OFF switch provides hands-on aperture control. Two customisable focus hold buttons offer even more flexibility. Dust and moisture resistance ensures reliability in challenging outdoor conditions, while a fluorine coating on the front element effectively repels contaminants.
G Master series lenses take imaging and expression to previously unattainable levels with a stunning blend of extremely high resolution and softly dissolving background bokeh
