Sony is offering a software update for Interchangeable Lens Camera (DSC-RX100M2).

Improvements: 

  • This update improves the vibration and sound noise of the lens when auto-focusing.

Check the System Software version

      Note: This update is intended for DSC-RX100M2 cameras that currenltly have a System Software version 1.00.

  1. Select Menu > Setup (4) > Version on the camera.
  2. The System Software version is displayed.
  3. If current version is 1.10, update is not required.

    * Please close all other application software and prevent your computer from going into Sleep Mode.

    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
  • Power source for the camera
    Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.
    Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery pack NP-BX1.

Important Notes:

  • When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.
  • Do not remove the battery during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.

Install

Details

  1. Download the update file
    Download the file to your computer. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).

    For Windows 8/Windows 8.1 users:
    Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer.
  2. Start the System Software Updater
    Close all currently running programs on your computer.
    Double click Update_DSCRX100M2V110.exe to start up System Software Updater.

  3. Check the USB connection mode
    1. Turn ON the camera.

      Note: If Date and Time setting is displayed when you turn ON the camera, you must complete all setting.
    2. Select Menu > Setup (2) > USB Connection
    3. Select Mass Storage

  4. Connect the camera to the computer
    Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
    1. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
      Note: "USB Mode" appears on the LCD monitor of the camera.

      If the computer cannot find the camera, the message “ Could not find the camera for this update.” appears on the computer display. Try the following if this happens.
      - Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
      - If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals. (Your computer may have some USB terminals on the backside.)
       
    2. Confirm the USB device icon is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.

      Note: If the USB device icon is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.
    3. After confirming the above, click on Next on the Firmware Updater. Figures below appears on the Firmware Updater and LCD screen of the camera respectively.

      Note: From now on, do not turn OFF the camera until the system software update is completed.



  5. Check if Software Update is required

    1. After confirming the above screens, click Next.
      The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen.

      Upgrade is required




      If the screen below appears, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, reinsert the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.

    2. After confirming Current version is Ver. 1.00 or earlier, click Next.
  6. Reset the camera
     
    1. Click on the USB device icon on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.

      Note: Please keep the USB cable connected even after stopping the USB connection on the computer with the above operation.

      Note: If the USB device icon is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.


    2. Press the center of the control wheel to execute.

      Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed.  Please proceed to the next step.



    3. Click Next on the Firmware Updater.

  7. Start the update
    1. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen below appears.


    2. Click Run to start the update. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes).

      Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.
  8. Complete the update
    1. When the upgrade is completed, the camera will restart automatically. “Recovering data. Please wait…” may be displayed for a few minutes before restarting. Make sure the camera is turned ON and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.

    2. Click on the USB device icon on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.

      Note: If the USB device icon is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.
    3. Disconnect the USB cable.
  9. Check the System Software version

    Follow the instruction to confirm the System Software version is Ver. 1.10.
    1. Press Menu > Setup (4) > Version on the camera.
    2. The System Software Ver. 1.10 is displayed.


Finally, after disconnecting USB cable and turning OFF and then turning ON the camera, confirm that camera functions normally.
