    Thank you for your continued interest in Sony products.

    Sony is offering a firmware upgrade for Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera NEX-6.

    Improvements after firmware upgrade

    • Provides support for the following ”Fast Hybrid AF” compliant lenses for SELP18105G, SEL35F28Z *, SEL55F18Z *, SEL2470Z *, SEL2870 *, SEL70200G * and compatible E mount lenses in the future *
      * Fast Hybrid AF is effective only in the central area of the frame

    Improvements from firmware version 1.01 to version 1.02

    • Provides support for the Fast Hybrid AF function compliant lenses:
      SEL20F28 and SEL1670Z.

    • Addition of AF drive system for movies
      AF drive system for movie was added in order to enhance the scalability of future E-mount systems. This feature ensures a higher degree of flexibility in the design of future E-mount lenses. We will be able to provide lenses that can even better satisfy our customers.

    Improvements from firmware version 1.00 to version 1.01

    • Provides support for the following Fast Hybrid AF function compliant lenses:
      SEL1018, SEL35F18, SELP18200, SEL30M35, SEL50F18, SEL18200LE

      The firmwares of the following lenses are also required to be updated in addition to this update: SEL30M35, SEL50F18, SEL18200LE.

      - For SEL18200LE, please contact nearest Sony service centre for firmware update.

    How to check the firmware version

    1. Select Menu → Setup → Version on the camera.
    2. The firmware version is displayed. If your firmware version is Ver 1.03 or later, the upgrade is not required.

    • Mac OS X v.10.5 – 10.11

    If you are using Mac OS X Ver.10.10 or later, you need to run Driver Loader, a preparatory application, before updating the system software.

    If you are using Mac OS X Ver.10.9 or earlier, you do not need to run Driver Loader.

    Other system requirements

    • CPU: Intel processor
      * Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported.
    • Hard disk space: 200MB or more
    • RAM: 512MB or more
      * Please close all other application software before upgrading the firmware.

      Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately)
      Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately).
    • USB cable supplied with the camera
      Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

    IMPORTANT:

    • When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately).
    • Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the upgrade; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
    • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.

    Start Firmware Updater

    1. Do not connect the camera yet at this point. Double-click Update_NEX6V103.dmg to start up Firmware Updater.
    2. Double-click the Update_NEX6V103 icon which appears on the Desktop.
    3. Double-click the FirmwareUpdater icon.
    4. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes.
      Type the password for the administrative account.


    5. Firmware Updater starts up.

       
    6. Check the USB connection mode

      Select Menu → Setup → USB Connection on the camera, and confirm Mass Storage is selected.


    7. Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand, and then connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
      Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.

      If the LCD screen of the camera dose not turn off, please try the following methods.
      - Disconnect the USB cable from the camera, then reconnect the USB cable.
      - If there are another USB terminal with the computer, reconnect the USB cable to another USB terminal.
    8. Click Next on Firmware Updater.

      Note: From this step onwards, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.
    9. After confirming the screens above, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen.

      Note: If Current version is Ver. 1.03, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, reinsert the battery pack or connect the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera.

    10. Press the center of the control wheel to reset the camera.

      Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
    11. Click Next on Firmware Updater.


    12. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen below appears.


    13. Click Run to start the upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 5 minutes).

      Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.
    14. When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. It may take a few minutes to restart the camera. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears.
    15. Disconnect the USB cable.

    Check the firmware version

    1. Select Menu → Setup → Version on the camera.
    2. The firmware version is displayed. The firmware upgrade was completed successfully if Ver. 1.03 is displayed.
