1. Click Start, click All Programs and click Windows Messenger.
* Alternatively, right-click the Windows Messenger icon in the taskbar and click Open.
2. The Windows Messenger window appears.
3. From the Tools menu, click Options.
4. When the Options dialog box appears, click the Preferences tab.
5. Disable the Run this program when Windows starts. and Allow this program to run in the background options.
6. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.

To start Windows Messenger manually,Click Start, click All Programs and click Windows Messenger.
