Why does an error message occur when running Windows Update or installing Service Pack and the process cannot be completed?
Err Msg: Could not check consistency of Update.inf
Please check the following settings and then run Windows Update or install Service Pack again when this symptom occurs.
Note: To carry out the following procedure, the user must logon as Administrator or as a user with the administrator privileges.
Otherwise, theAccess denied error message will appear and the procedure cannot be completed.
A. Check if the Cryptographic Services's Startup type option is disabled.
1. Click Start and click Control Panel.
2. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools and double-click the Services icon.
3. Click Cryptographic Services, click the Action tab and then click Properties.
4. Under Startup Type, select the Automatic option. Under Service type, click Start.
If Windows Update or Service Pack still cannot be done, change the name of the %Systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 folder.
B. Change the name of the %Systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 folder and check the results.
1. Click Start and click All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt.
2. Type net stop cryptsvc and press Enter.
3. Type rem %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2 and press Enter.
4. When the procedure is completed, type exit.
