What if the touch pad is not functioning properly?

    - The tap function (tapping on the touch pad works as clicking with a mouse) does not work.
    - The corner tap function cannot be set as the Enable Tap Zone Function check box is grayed out.
    - The menu of an application does not open sometimes even when tapping on the upper left corner of the touch pad.
    - When tapping on the upper left corner of the touch pad, the mouse pointer moves to the upper left corner of the screen sometimes.
    - There is unxpected movement of the mouse pointer.

    The countermeasures for the touch pad problem may vary depending on the kind of symptoms.
    A. The tap function cannot work or the Enable Tap Zone Function check box is grayed out:
    - The tap function is not properly set. Follow the steps below to check the tap function and the settings of the corner tap function. The default settings enable the tap function but disable the corner tap function.

    1. Right-click the Synaptics Touchpad icon in the task tray in the lower right corner of the window.
    2. Click Tap to click from the displayed menu.
    * The tap function is enabled when this option is selected.

    Follow the steps below to set the corner tap function.
    1. Right-click the Synaptics Touchpad icon in the task tray in the lower right corner of the window.
    2. Click Touchpad Properties from the displayed menu.
    3. In the Mouse Properties dialog box, click the Function tab and select the Enable Tap Zone Function check box.
    4. Click the Tap Zone Settings5. To set a program to open when the upper left corner is tapped, check if Menu is assigned to the upper left corner. Otherwise, click Jump to Application Windows Menu Automatically from the pull-down menu.
    6. Click OK to close the Mouse Properties dialog box.

    B. The menu of a program does not open when tapping on the upper left corner of the touch pad, or the mouse pointer moves to the upper left corner when there's no menu to open:
    - When the corner tap function is properly set, the program can be operated without a menu bar.
    C. The mouse pointer does not move smoothly or shows unexpected movements.
    The touch pad sensitivity may vary depending on the situation in which it is used.
    Follow the steps below to change the sensitivity settings.

    1. Right-click the Synaptics Touchpad icon in the task tray in the lower right corner of the window.
    2. Click Touchpad Properties from the displayed menu.
    3. Click the Action tab and adjust the slider in the Touch Sensitivity box.
    * The mouse pointer does not move smoothly when the touch pad sensitivity is low. Move the slider towards High instead. However, if the mouse pointer makes unexpected movements such as jumping around, the touch pad sensitivity is high. Adjust the slider toward Low.
    4. Click OK to close the Mouse Properties dialog box.
