What to do if the mouse does not work properly?

    • The mouse attached to VAIO cannot work properly?
    • The mouse specialized for VAIO cannot work properly?
    • The mouse key cannot be clicked?

    Operations of solutions vary with different usage of the mouse.
    ■ The mouse cannot work at all.
    ■ The mouse cannot work well.



    ■ The mouse cannot work at all.

    ● Check whether the mouse that is compatible with VAIO.
    ● Re-connect the mouse with the computer.
    ● Clean the mouse.
    ● Check whether you are using an optical mouse.
    ● Check whether the mouse you are using is connected with the computer via USB.
    ● Restore to the default setting of BIOS.
    ● Install and update the driver of the mouse.
    ● Use another mouse to check if it can work properly.
    ● Try to recover the system.



    ● Check whether you are using a mouse that is compatible with VAIO.

    Only the following types of mouse can work properly.

    • The mouse supplied with the VAIO computer.
    • The mouse that is specialized for the VAIO computer.
    If a mouse produced by other companies, please contact the seller or manufacturer for futher information.



    ● Re-connect the mouse with the computer.

    Cut off the power of the computer, and then re-connect the mouse with the computer with the steps below.
    1. End windows via the keyboard instead of the mouse.

    2. Ensure the computer has been shut down, and then re-connect the mouse with the computer.
      Confirm the mouse is connected correctly though the Connect/ready item in the instructions attached.

      Note:
      There are special notices for mice of some models when they are connected to computers.
      Please connect the mouse to the computer after checking the notices.

    3. Turn on the VAIO, and then start windows.



    ● Clean the mouse.

    The mouse cannot work properly when there is dirt at the bottom or inside the mouse.

    Mechanical mouse

    		The mouse cannot work properly when there is dirt on the ball at the bottom or on the bearing inside the mouse.
    Please refer to the steps below to clean the mouse.
    1. End Windows and cut off the power of the computer.

    2. Unplug the power cord out of the outlet.

    3. Remove the bottom cover of the mouse according to the arrow directions.

    4. Take out the ball, and clean off any dirt or dust with a cloth. Clean dust around the bearing with a swab.

    5. Put the ball back in and place the bottom cover back to the mouse.



    Optical mouse

    		The mouse cannot work properly when there is dirt at the bottom of the mouse.
    Please refer to the steps below to clean the mouse.
    1. End Windows and cut off the power of the computer.

    2. Unplug the power cord out of the outlet.

    3. Clean the dirt and dust at the bottom of the mouse with a dry cloth.


    ● Check whether it is an optical mouse.

    The optical mouse cannot work properly on the following objects.
    • Transparent materials such as glass
    • Reflective materials such as glossy resin and mirrors
    • Prints that with web pictures and materials on which there are same pictures such as photos on magazines and newspapers
    • objects that have clear stripes and pictures
    Please replace to lusterless printing paper or a mouse pad specialized for optical mouse to avoid the symptom.

    ● Check whether the mouse is connected with the computer via USB.

    Please confirm if the mouse can work properly when insert it into other USB interfaces.
    ※Ensure that the USB hub is removed when the mouse is inserted into the computer.

    Note:
    If the mouse can work properly in other USB interfaces, the computer may have an issue. Please check the computer carefully.



    ● Restore to the default setting of BIOS.

    ● Install and update the driver of the mouse.

    It could be due to the driver of the mouse that caused it to not work properly.
    Please update the driver of the mouse via the following ways.

    • Touch pad can work properly. Please update the driver of the mouse via the touch pad.

    • Both the touch pad and the mouse cannot work at all. Please update the driver of the mouse via the keyboard.

    ● Use another mouse to check if it can work properly.

    Use another mouse that is compatible with VAIO, to check if it can work properly.

    If the new mouse can work properly, something may be wrong with the old mouse.

    ● Check the driver of the mouse.

    Confirm if the mouse can work properly when the settings of the driver of the mouse have been checked. Please refer to the following related information for operations.

    • Check Double-click speed.
    • Check ClickLock.
    • Check Pointer speed.

    • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

      The Mouse Properties window displays.

    • Click Buttons option, and then check Switch primary and secondary buttons in the Button configuration bar.


    • Check Double-click speed.

    • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    • Click Mouse.
      The Mouse Properties window displays.

    • Click Buttons option, and then change the double-click speed with the slider in the Speed of the Double-click speed bar.


    • Check ClickLock.

    • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    • Click Printers and Other Hardware.

    • Click Mouse.
      The Mouse Properties window displays.

    • Click Buttons option, and then check Turn on ClickLock in the ClickLock bar.


    • Check Pointer speed

    • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    • Click Printers and Other Hardware.

    • Click Mouse.
      The Mouse Properties window displays.

    • Click Pointer Options option, and then change the motion speed of the pointer with the slider in Select a pointer speed of the Motion bar.




    ● Windows Vista


    • Check Button configuration.
    • Check Double-click speed.
    • Check ClickLock.
    • Check Pointer speed.
    • Check Button configuration.

    • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    • Click Mouse in Hardware and Sound.

    • Click Buttons option in the Mouse Properties window, and then check Switch primary and secondary buttons in the Button configuration bar.


    • Check Double-click speed.

    • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    • Click Mouse in Hardware and Sound.

    • Click Buttons option in the Mouse Properties window, and then change the double-click speed with the slider in the Speed of the Double-click speed bar.


    • Click Lock.

    • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    • Click Mouse in Hardware and Sound.

    • Click Buttons option in the Mouse Properties window, and then check Turn on ClickLock in the ClickLock bar.


    • Check Pointer speed.

    • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    • Click Mouse in Hardware and Sound.

    • Click Pointer Options option in the Mouse Properties window, and then change the motion speed of the pointer with the slider in Select a pointer speed of the Motion bar.




    ● Check if the driver of the mouse is the latest version.

    Please check that the driver of the mouse is the latest version.




    ● Install and update the driver of the mouse.

    Maybe it is because the driver of the mouse cannot work properly that the mouse cannot work at all.
    Please update the driver of the mouse via the following ways.

    • Touch pad can work properly. Please update the driver of the mouse via the touch pad.

    • Both the touch pad and the mouse cannot work at all. Please update the driver of the mouse via the keyboard.

    ● Use another mouse that is compatible with VAIO to check if it can work properly.

    If you have other mouse that is compatible with VAIO, please replace the original mouse, and check whether the new one can work properly.
